Lesson 2.3.1- Look at this presentation and read the two primary source documents and answer the Japanese internment questions (1st2nd).

You must earn a minimum of 100 points by completing any combination of the following assignments. 

Grading scale for this assignment:
100-119 points = C
120-129 points = B
130-150 points = A
151-180 points = A+ 1-30 extra points credit

To Turn in your assignment: Copy the letter, description, and points possible for each assignment that you do and put together on one document and turn that in.  

  • A) One page paper on one of the following:- up to 50

          -Our current economic situation.

          -Changing rules of society- expanding/contracting  rights- such as health care benefits, the tightening of tobacco laws etc. 

          -Analyzing what role the U.S. govt. should play in the oil spill

          -Study the effect that our military engagements are having on our economy, world status, our future, etc. 

          -Other topic that is approved by me

  • B) Write an ending to the war in Afghanistan. Describe how the war in Afghanistan will end.  Be real.  You must do research to know what the war is about, who we are fighting etc., (watching PBS’s Obama’s war will help a lot). Up to 40 
  • C) Do you agree with the new immigration law in Arizona?  Why or why not?- Up to 25
           -Do research to learn about the 2010 Arizona immigration law and explain your position.
  • D) Identifying 3 examples of propaganda today.- Up to 20
             -Explain why they are considered propaganda.
  •  E) Create 3 level 1 questions, 2 level two questions, and 1 level three question about the civil rights movement.  You must also include answers to your questions.- Up to 40
  • F) Political cartoonsUse the internet to locate four different political cartoons.  Explain what the cartoon is about.  What is the authors opinion?  What is your opinion of this subject?  - Up to 30
  • G) Analyze issues of today from varying perspective.-10 points per issue up to 5 issues- total=up to 50 points. Pick an issue of today- Immigration, Welfare, Care for elderly, foreign policy, domestic policy, etc. and look at it from multiple perspectives. For example, show how a poor person and a rich person might view welfare.  
  •  H) Compare contrast  aspects of the great depression to today’s recession- up to 25

  • I) Graphic organizer comparing/contrasting urbanization with globalization- up to 25

  •  JA prediction of where the U.S. will be in 5 years using evidence of the past to support argument- Up to 30
  •   K) A letter written to a Senator or Representative about an issue you care about. – Up to 30

                       -Be sure to include proper heading, closing, and language. 

  •   L) A pro-con’s sheet about intervening or not  in the Afghan war or Iraq war- Up to 30

 

  • M) A conversation between you and yourself of 50 years ago.  What things have changed?  What have stayed the same? Up to 30 points

 

  •  N) Analyze the social inequalities that exist today.  What still needs to be done as far as civil and human rights go. Up to 30 


  • O) Create two level 1 questions, two level 2 questions, and two level 3 questions about the topics that you have learned about so far.  Up to 30 points

    For each big question below: - Up to 30 points

    ·         There must be a detailed explanation of your understanding of the question (at least one good paragraph)

    For each question, you must include real life examples that demonstrate your understanding

  •                               1.   How does national interest determine foreign policy? Who should determine what is a nation's best interest? How much power do the people have to influence decisions? 

              2. Why is cause and effect important? How do we know if events are simply happening at the same time, or if that are related?

     

  •  Q) You can choose to do your own thing but it must be approved by me and we will agree on what your assignment is worth
